Creating the Perfect Vintage Dessert Table

One lovely trend which we have noticed in recent years is the addition of dessert tables to events to supplement or replace a traditional cake for baby and bridal showers, weddings or other special events.  This is giving many of our beautiful vintage cake stands and china pieces a real chance to shine. Working with many brides and brides-to-be on the creation of their dessert tables has been fun and enlightening. Here are a few pointers I have picked up along the way and some inspirational pictures to help you create the perfect vintage dessert table for your special event.  Guaranteed eye candy that will turn heads (and taste great too!)

What dessert items should I include?
This decision really comes down to personal taste (and that of your guests of course!), but why not include a beautiful array of vintage inspired cupcakes and cookies, macaroons and maybe one or two tiered cakes to create some visual impact.  Or you could opt to do a larger selection of vintage inspired single and tiered cakes, which would be equally stunning.

Choosing the perfect dessert 'table'
Dessert 'tables' come in a a variety of shapes and sizes and funnily enough don't necessarily need to be a table.  You can use a wide variety of vintage furniture pieces to create a look which works with your event style - bookcases, dressers, wooden crates, desks, the choices are endless leaving a lot of room to have fun and be creative!

All in the detail
You can present the cakes (small and large) on an assortment of vintage cake stands.  Cupcakes always look devine arranged on tiered china cake stands and why not use an array of different coloured glass stands to display the single and tiered cakes.  White milk compotes are an original and beautiful way to serve macaroons or candy.  To create additional visual interest why not try flower arrangements in other vintage pieces such as vases, teacups, teapots, mason jars or birdcages.  Be careful though when choosing additional decorative items, you don't want to detract from the cakes and stands and make the dessert table look to cluttered.

Sourcing Vintage Accessories
If you don't want the expense of buying vintage pieces why not rent.  We have a lovely selection of vintage cake stands including clear glass, pink depression glass, milk glass and china.  Here are just a few images of some of our latest finds.  Some of these are making their dessert table debut at a wedding in Toronto in a few weeks time.  For vintage furniture pieces why not take a look at Hazlitt Vintage Rental
